O desenvolvimento do conheci-mento acerca das plantas e os seus usos está intimamente relacionado ao fl uxo e ao refl uxo de objetos, pessoas e ideias em escala global. Entre os séculos XVI e XIX, diversos indivíduos envolveram-se na recolha de espécies pelos quatro cantos do mundo e na sua transferência para ambientes – naturais ou artifi ciais - diversos do seu local de origem. Nesse deslocamento, as plantas acabavam sofrendo diversas transformações, podendo ter suas capacidades ampliadas ou reduzidas e recebendo novos usos pelos homens. O livro trata desse tema com propriedade. | |
| dc.description | The circulation of vegetables constitutes one of the greatest events of modernity in the transformation of the physical and human world. The development of knowledge about plants and their uses is closely related to the ebb and flow of objects, people and ideas on a global scale. Between the 16th and 19th centuries, several individuals were involved in collecting species from all over the world and transferring them to environments – natural or artificial – different from their place of origin. In this displacement, the plants ended up undergoing several transformations, being able to have their capacities expanded or reduced and receiving new uses by men. The book deals with this topic properly. | |
