dc.description.abstractAntecedentes: Los valores y preferencias describen la importancia que los pacientes le asignan a los desenlaces en salud y son fundamentales cuando se quieren considerar los riesgos y beneficios de un tratamiento. Los métodos de investigación cualitativa proveen información para identificar y explorar las preferencias de los pacientes. Objetivo: El objetivo de esta síntesis de evidencia cualitativa es identificar y explorar las percepciones y experiencias que determinan los valores y preferencias de los pacientes con asma en tratamiento con corticoides inhalados (CSI). Métodos: Se condujo una síntesis de evidencia cualitativa por medio de un análisis temático con el fin de describir las percepciones y experiencias de los pacientes. Artículos con abordajes cualitativos fueron seleccionados de las bases de datos de MEDLINE, EMBASE, CENTRAL, PsycInfo, CINAHL and Lilacs. Dos autores determinaron independientemente la elegibilidad de los estudios, codificaron sus hallazgos y evaluaron su calidad metodológica con el instrumento CASP. El grado de certeza del cuerpo de la evidencia fue evaluado por medio de la estrategia CERQUAL dentro del marco GRADE. Resultados: Se incluyeron 25 estudios cualitativos que involucraron 804 participantes entre pacientes asmáticos y cuidadores de menores asmáticos en tratamiento con CSI. Ocho temas identificados mostraron cómo los participantes modificaron sus preferencias hacia los CSI por temores a los efectos adversos, preferían tratamientos más simples y que impactaran positivamente en su estilo de vida, aumentaban su preferencia a CSI con un mayor entendimiento de su enfermedad y con una mejor comunicación con sus prestadores de servicios en salud, y priorizaban un buen estado de salud sobre el costo del tratamiento. La certeza de la evidencia fue de muy baja a moderada entre los diferentes temas, debido principalmente a limitaciones metodológicas y de idoneidad de los datos. Conclusiones: Esta revisión describe que las preferencias de los pacientes por los CSI pueden estar determinadas por sus percepciones y experiencias sobre los medicamentos, la relación con sus prestadores de servicios de salud y el impacto en su vida diaria. Se espera que esta información contribuya en el proceso de elaboración de guías de práctica clínica y de toma de decisiones compartidas.
