dc.description.abstract | Uno de los objetivos de la Unión Europea es reducir las brechas económicas y sociales entre regiones de países miembros. Para alcanzar este objetivo se ha establecido una política de solidaridad regional que busca disminuir diferencias en educación, tecnología, empleo y acceso a bienes públicos. En la medida en que estas variables son determinantes de PIB per cápita, el éxito de la política de solidaridad regional se debe ver reflejado en convergencia en niveles de ingreso. En este contexto, es crucial evaluar si las políticas de cohesión tienen el efecto deseado. Para este propósito, este trabajo evalúa la convergencia regional en la Unión Europea utilizando los conceptos de convergencia "beta" y convergencia "sigma" introducidos por Barro y Sala-i-Martin (1991, 1992) para el período comprendido entre 1951 y 2019. Adicionalmente, este trabajo evalúa si los choques exógenos afectan la velocidad de convergencia y si la política de cohesión puede mitigar estos efectos. | |
