dc.description.abstractHay un debate sobre el rol del género en la cooperación y manejo de recursos naturales. Sin embargo, pocos estudios han evaluado empíricamente cómo interactúa la composición de género de los grupos de usuarios ante la implementación de sanciones no monetarias en contextos de recursos de uso común. Mediante un experimento económico en campo con usuarios del molusco piangüa en el Pacífico Colombiano testeo cómo las dinámicas de extracción son influenciadas por la composición de género de los grupos de usuarios, y su interacción con la implementación de una a) sanción social y b) sanción social con comunicación. Los resultados revelan un efecto diferencial del género en diferentes composiciones de grupos. Encuentro que, en acceso abierto, la composición de género no es determinante para los comportamientos de extracción de la piangüa. Sin embargo, una vez se introduce la sanción social hay variaciones significativas por grupos de tratamiento en el comportamiento individual de extracción. El grupo de solo mujeres tiene un comportamiento más cooperativo una vez se introduce la sanción social. Luego, cuando la sanción social con comunicación se activó, la acción colectiva resultó en la extracción más baja de piangüa de todos los grupos de tratamiento. Discuto posibles factores socioculturales que pueden explicar estos resultados.
