Cutting acrylic with CO2 laser is a widely used process in the industry of plastic transformation due to the excellent quality of the cut and its accuaracy. In the plastic maker there are two types of acrylic, one manufactured with virgin methyl-methacrylate nad the other manufactured with recycled methyl-methacrylate. In this study, cutting tests of these two materials were made with a CO2 laser using different parameters of speed and power in order to observe how both materials are affected by the heat generated during the cutting process and if there were any differences on the cutting quality. The experimental results showed a great difference in behavior between the virgin acrylic and recycled acrylic during laser cutting, due to the impurities in the recycled acrylic.
