It is estimated that more than 1.5 million patients are diagnosed with colorectal cancer and more than 500,000 die from this disease worldwide. The mainstays of treatment are early diagnosis with endoscopic resection, surgery or neoadjuvant or adjuvant therapies. This review is aimed at primary care physicians and mainly at early detection programs, with which it is hoped to disseminate and standardize actions aimed at cancer control.
