dc.description | eng: Abstract
Ecological restoration consists of the recovery of degraded ecosystems, through passive restoration (natural regeneration) or active restoration (plantations with monocultures or polycultures). The success of these processes can be evaluated through the characteristics of the vegetation where the epiphytic plants represent a model system to examine the diversity of the restored forests. Among the vascular epiphytes is the Bromeliaceae family, which have been used as an enrichment strategy for these sites, but their diversity has not been evaluated in restored sites. The objective of this study was to describe the bromeliad community in the Chinchiná river basin, where natural regeneration, monoculture plantations and polyculture plantations have been used as ecological restoration strategies. The richness, diversity and composition of epiphytic bromeliads were estimated among the restoration strategies, as well as the characteristics of the phorophyte. The diversity of epiphytic bromeliads varies between restoration strategies, with greater richness and diversity in polyculture. The species composition of epiphytic bromeliads differed in the polyculture with respect to the other restoration strategies. In natural regeneration, the most abundant species was Guzmania multiflora, in the monoculture plantation forest it was Vriesea tequendamae and in the polyculture plantation forest it was Tillandsia fendleri. The characteristics of the phorophytes present in the restoration strategies determine the diversity and composition of epiphytic bromeliads, therefore restoration strategies whose trajectory leads to large trees with a high number of branches will contribute to increasing the richness and diversity of epiphytic bromeliads.
