dc.descriptionLa Bioética contemporánea es vista alternativamente como una disciplina en crisis, o una ética aplicada en pleno desarrollo expansi­vo. Persisten también las polémicas académicas y sociológicas sobre si la Bioética es un campo de acción o una disciplina propiamente tal. Su carácter transdisciplinario es indiscutidamente constitutivo de ella, pero tampoco hay acuerdo sobre cuál sea su método episte­mológico, más allá de la deliberación, ni faltan opiniones que le niegan toda importancia política o social. Los severos problemas socio-económicos de Latinoamérica, con sus negativas consecuencias sanitarias, deben robustecer su deliberación sobre sus necesidades médicas y sanitarias, y el apoyo que la Bioética pueda brindar a la solución de las falencias en estas áreas.La globalización (mundialización) y la secularidad moderna (mundanización) requieren una elaboración ética basada en las humani­dades, más que en convicciones teológicas, a fin de dar cumplimiento a las esperanzas de V.R. Potter de un mundo donde la supervi­vencia humana no se vea amenazada por la expansión biotecnológica y sus consecuencias.Diversas iniciativas proponen renovar el discurso bioético desde la biopolítica o desde el robustecimiento del sujeto individual. Los problemas de la Bioética se encuentran tan vinculados a los asuntos económicos, políticos, sociales y tecnocientíficos, que se plantea la posibilidad de una autoreflexión y la aplicación del pensamiento complejo.
