The mass media have focused on reporting more on issues of war than on peace. Hence, peace journalism emerges as a narrative option that contributes to the peaceful resolution of conflicts, in a context where truth, rigorous reporting and social responsibility of information are essential. Despite its importance, peace journalism is a subfield scarcely explored in the Spanish-speaking literature. This article, carried out with documentary and bibliometric review techniques, contributes to this field of knowledge with an analysis of the genesis and development of peace journalism. Methodologically, 10 reference books and 133 articles on peace journalism were reviewed in Scopus, which allowed a balance of their contributions, criticisms and conceptual evolution. © 2022 Pontificia Universidad Javeriana.
