dc.description.abstractOur patient belongs to a house located in the Santa María del Lago sector in Bogotá, which was built in 1971, and has a structural system not supported by the current earthquake resistance standard NSR-10 (simple masonry). In 2019, on the east side of the building began the construction of a 5-storey building, from that moment our patient began to experience various injuries and during the construction process of the building, the cracks and cracks evolved, resulting in a significant settlement, with consequences of danger of collapse. Based on the characterization of lesions and their follow-up, analysis of the design and construction process of the evaluated unit and the neighboring building, it was possible to determine that the main cause of the settlement and the lesions were the result of an incomplete analysis of the soil study of the neighboring building, which considered only the settlements of the projected 5-storey building, and not the effects of the settlements of the neighboring buildings, as occurred in our case under study. Taking into account the origin of the pathologies, we propose an intervention on the foundation of the patient with a reinforcement system comprised of concrete feet and beams, complemented by steel columns forming frames, being this a constructive system, considered by the NSR-10 as resistant to earthquakes.
