Moedas digitais emitidas por bancos centrais: um estudo da aplicação

Abstract

A transformação digital tem impactado diferentes esferas da sociedade, entre elas, a indústria financeira. O surgimento de criptomoedas chamou a atenção de bancos central e muitos destes compuseram grupos de estudo para avaliar a potencial criação de uma moeda digital emitida pela autoridade monetária. A proposta da presente dissertação é discutir a eventual implementação do novo instrumento tecnológico na estrutura do sistema financeiro brasileiro, examinando possíveis arquiteturas de funcionamento, analisando vantagens e desvantagens de sua realização e ponderando sobre o futuro da moeda digital para a dinâmica economia. Como plano de fundo da investigação, foram utilizadas algumas das principais teorias monetaristas, que forneceram subsídio para compreensão do funcionamento da moeda, além disso, foi explorado a atual composição do Sistema Financeiro Nacional, a fim de entender o papel do Banco Central na estrutura do sistema.

The digital transformation has impacted different spheres of society, including the financial industry. The emergence of cryptocurrencies caught the attention of central banks and many of them formed study groups to evaluate the potential creation of a digital currency issued by the monetary authority. The purpose of this thesis is to discuss the possible implementation of the new technological instrument in the structure of the Brazilian financial system, examining possible operating architectures, analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of its realization, and considering the future of digital currency for the dynamic economy. As background for the investigation, some of the main monetarist theories were used, which provided support for understanding the functioning of the currency. Furthermore, the current composition of the National Financial System was explored, in order to understand the role of the Central Bank in the structure of the system.
