A Afrodite-Vênus na História da Arte

Abstract

This course completion work seeks to investigate, analyze, and compare the different approaches present in Art History manuals, about the mythological figure Aphrodite-Venus, the Greco-Roman goddess of beauty, who is recurrent in the imaginary of works of art in history, especially in paintings and sculptures. Here we focus on the many appearances within this theme, starting on the briefest approaches of the figure, which begins in Fritz Baumgart’s book “Brief Art History”, up until the conclusion which ends on the book collaboration organized by Martin Kemp, “The Oxford History of Western Art”. In this work, we approach the many narratives presented about the mythological figure of Aphrodite-Venus, the approach of her figure as an art object from classical Greek art up until the renaissance and the neoclassical movement.

Este trabalho de conclusão de curso pretende investigar, analisar e comparar as diversas abordagens presentes nos manuais de história da arte a respeito da figura mitológica da deusa Afrodite-Vênus, deusa greco-romana da beleza, a qual é muito recorrente no imaginário das obras de arte na história, sobretudo nas pinturas e esculturas. Aqui focamos em suas aparições dentre o tema, partindo das mais breves abordagens da figura, que se inicia no livro de Fritz Baumgart, Breve História da Arte, até a conclusão que se dá no livro organizado por Martin Kemp, História da Arte Ocidental. Neste trabalho, abordamos as diferentes narrativas apresentadas sobre a figura mitológica da Afrodite-Vênus, sua abordagem como objeto de arte desde a arte clássica grega até a sua renascença.
