dc.descriptionThe main objective of this dissertation was to investigate the novel The Bell Jar (1963), by Sylvia Plath, starting from a reading from the perspective of autofiction, a term coined by the French writer Serge Doubrovsky, in the 1970s, to characterize autobiographical writing practices through the model of fiction. Such proposal consisted of studying the authorial and factual presence of Sylvia Plath, highlighting fictional events in the narrative that, supposedly, present autobiographical indications. Then, a study was carried out on how Sylvia Plath, as a female author, resorted to a narrative model inherent in her literary productions, which consist of a performance of herself, through the emergence of feminist movements in the 1950s and 1960s. For this, excerpts from the work in question were examined, basing the analysis on an authorized biography of Sylvia Plath, as well as her own diaries. Thus, it was assumed that, although The Bell Jar (1963) was published before the emergence of the concept of autofiction, the novel presents resources and narrative compositions similar to that of an autobiographical text, however, written in the mold of fiction. The research had a bibliographic and investigative character, having as main theoretical assumptions texts by authors such as Bakhtin (2011a; 2011b), Lejeune (2008), Foucault (2006 and 2001), Barthes (2004a; 2004b), Lejeune (2008), and Doubrovsky (1970).
dc.descriptionA presente dissertação teve como principal objetivo investigar o romance The Bell Jar (1963), de Sylvia Plath, partindo de uma leitura sob a perspectiva de autoficção, termo cunhado pelo escritor francês Serge Doubrovsky, na década de 1970, para caracterizar práticas de escritas autobiográfica através do modelo de ficção. Tal proposta consistiu em estudar a presença autoral e factual de Sylvia Plath destacando eventos ficcionais na narrativa que, supostamente, apresentam indicativos autobiográficos. Em seguida, foi realizado um estudo sobre como Sylvia Plath, enquanto uma autora mulher, recorreu a um modelo narrativo inerente a suas produções literárias, nas quais consistem em uma performance de si mesma, mediante a emergências dos movimentos feministas da década de 1950 e 1960. Para isso, foram examinados trechos da obra em questão, fundamentando a análise em uma biografia autorizada de Sylvia Plath, bem como seus próprios diários. Dessa forma, foi assumido que, embora The Bell Jar (1963) tenha sido publicado antes do surgimento do conceito de autoficção, o romance apresenta recursos e composições narrativas semelhantes ao de um texto autobiográfico, porém, escrito nos moldes da ficção. A pesquisa se deu de caráter bibliográfico e investigativo, tendo como principais pressupostos teóricos textos de autores como Bakhtin (2011a; 2011b), Foucault (2006 e 2001), Barthes (2004a; 2004b), Lejeune (2008) e Doubrovsky (1970).
