dc.descriptiono describe the profile of serious occupational accidents in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, from 2007 to 2014. Method: This is a cross-sectional study on the serious workplace accidents reported in the Information System for Notifiable Diseases. Results: there was an increase in the reporting of these occurrences involving predominantly male workers between 25 and 44 years and the typical accidents during the entire period. The most common development was a temporary disability and the hands were the most affected part of the body; the mining and construction industries had the largest number of cases and the registered employees were the most victimized professionals. Conclusion: The findings demonstrate the importance of reporting accidents at work in the health services to support decision-making and planning of public policies
dc.descriptionObjetivo: Descrever o perfil dos acidentes de trabalho grave no estado do Rio Grande do Norte de 2007 a 2014. Método: Estudo transversal dos acidentes de trabalho graves notificados no Sistema de Informação de Agravos de Notificação. Resultados: Observou-se aumento na notificação de acidentes de trabalho grave com predominância do sexo masculino, trabalhadores entre 25 a 44 anos e do acidente típico em todo o período. A incapacidade temporária à evolução mais comum e a mão a parte mais atingida; a indústria extrativa e da construção civil teve o maior número de casos e o empregado registrado foi o mais vitimado. Conclusão: Os achados demonstram a importância da notificação dos acidentes de trabalho nos serviços de saúde para subsidiar a tomada de decisões e o planejamento de políticas públicas
