moleculares amplamente difundidas e nela a região do gene mitocondrial COI é o fragmento
Estes resultados mostram a
dc.description | The DNA barcode has been used with success in the identification of several species, with a
high level of precision. Since conventional taxonomic systems based on morphology are
outdated, slow and imprecise in the correct classification of living beings. Given that studies of
species identification, phylogenetic relationships and analysis of food products, are not able to
rely only on external characteristics for the correct analysis of individuals, it is necessary to use
more sensitive analytical methods. In this context, molecular markers have been used for a more
accurate identification of the analyzed species, from studies of fauna surveys to
commercialization and fraud in the food industry. DNA barcoding is one of the widespread
molecular techniques, in which the region of the mitochondrial gene COI is the fragment
responsible for the delimitation and identification of species. Through a systematic survey in
the bibliography, this work aims to quantify the articles that use COI as a molecular marker of
fish species identified in the Americas. The search was performed in the PubMed online
database, using the AND operator, with 19 combinations of keywords in English. After a
selection made based on the title and abstract, 413 articles were selected, of these 109 were
selected after their full reading and for presenting the IOC as an identifier of fish species in the
Americas, where 58 were carried out in Brazilian territory. Among the 109 articles selected,
only 14 refer to food fraud, where again the country pointed out with the greatest number of
investigations was Brazil. Of the species analyzed in fraud cases, 55 showed some risk in the
Red List and 51 presented insufficient data.Showing the need for investment in research with
molecular markers for greater precision in the identification of species, generating data that are
important for the conservation and quantification of biodiversity.
