dc.descriptionThe Ponta Grossa Railway Station is a cultural heritage listed at the state level and received a restoration intervention in 2019. Recognized as a building of historical and architectural importance, the now called Estação Saudade, is established in the central region of the city and exerts influence on spatial dynamics of the city. The railway implantation determined the urban layouts in the beginning of the 20th century and continues to exert influence on spaces now no longer occupied by the railway. The station had moments of glory, undue reuse and abandonment, however, the last restoration action proposes a new use of the building. In this context, the objective of this work is to understand how maintenance and restoration actions act in the resignification of cultural heritage - the Ponta Grossa Railway Station. The hypothesis is that the resignification is obtained through time and also through these practices. The research is divided into four chapters. Initially, conceptual aspects related to the theme are approached, such as culture, perception of the city, cultural heritage, social memory and restoration in its conceptual and contextual aspects. The second moment makes a reading of the object of study: the station in relation to its context in the city, its history and architecture. The third moment explores the restoration process (with damage analysis) and the redefinition that this procedure provides. The analysis methodology was carried out through interviews with the process participants, as well as questionnaires to the public and employees of 'SESC Estação Saudade'. The study concludes that the building is reinterpreted through restoration and this is intertwined with the city's culture, with the railway identity, through individual and collective memories and, based on the materiality of the building and proposals for new uses – uses that return people's access to the station.

Reconhecida como uma edificação de importância histórica e arquitetônica a agora denominada Estação Saudade, se estabelece na região central da cidade e exerce influência nas dinâmicas espaciais da cidade. A implantação ferroviária determinou os traçados urbanos no início do século XX e continua exercendo influência nos espaços agora não mais ocupados pela ferrovia. A estação teve momentos de glória, reutilizações indevidas e abandono, entretanto, a última ação de restauro propõe novo uso ao edifício. Neste contexto, o objetivo deste trabalho é compreender como as ações de manutenção e restauro agem na ressignificação de patrimônios culturais - a Estação Ferroviária Ponta Grossa. A hipótese é que a ressignificação é obtida através do tempo e também por meio destas práticas. A pesquisa se divide em quatro capítulos. Inicialmente são abordados aspectos conceituais relativos ao tema tais como cultura, percepção da cidade, patrimônio cultural, memória social e o restauro em seu aspecto conceitual e contextual. O segundo momento faz um leitura do objeto de estudo: a estação em relação ao seu contexto na cidade, sua história e a arquitetura. O terceiro momento explora o processo de restauro (com análise de danos) e a ressignificação que este procedimento proporciona. A metodologia de análise se deu por meio de entrevistas com os participantes do processo, bem como questionários ao público e funcionários do ‘SESC Estação Saudade’. O estudo conclui que através do restauro ocorre a ressignificação do edifício e isto está entrelaçado com a cultura da cidade, com a identidade ferroviária, por meio das memórias individual e coletiva e, tendo como base, a materialidade do edifício e as propostas de novos usos – usos esses que devolvem o acesso das pessoas à estação.
