dc.descriptionNeste trabalho, procuramos abordar a disseminação da Língua Portuguesa entre a população indígena que existia no Piauí setecentista. Trata-se, pois, de um estudo histórico que busca analisar os mecanismos políticos e culturais da colonização portuguesa que ensejava a ressocialização dos indígenas no Piauí através de uma educação predominantemente cristã e ancorada no ensino da Língua Portuguesa. As fontes utilizadas neste estudo – ofícios, termos, leis, regimentos, cartas e alvarás régios – foram analisadas à luz dos pressupostos teóricos trabalhados por Roger Chartier (1990) para compreender a mecânica utilizada pelo Estado com fins de instaurar a ordem, pacificar as populações, legitimar poderes, conferir primazias ou privilégios, definir posses, fronteiras territoriais e culturais. A análise das fontes permitiu-nos apreender que o uso de uma língua geral com elementos da Língua Portuguesa na catequese, o contato do indígena com a escrita e a leitura de documentos da burocracia colonial, a convivência na casa dos colonos, a frequência nas escolas de ler, escrever e contar favoreceu a disseminação da Língua Portuguesa entre os gentios que existiam no Piauí entre os anos de 1700 e 1757.In this paper, we aim at approach the dissemination of the Portuguese Language among the indigenous population that existed in the eighteenth century in Piauí State. It is, therefore, a historical study that seeks to analyze the political and cultural mechanisms of Portuguese colonization that led to the resocialization of the indigenous people in Piauí through an education predominantly Christian and anchored in the teaching of Portuguese Language. The sources used in this study - letters, terms, regiments, royal letters and licenses - were analyzed in the light of the theoretical assumptions used by Roger Chartier (1990) to understand things used by the State for the purpose of establishing order, pacifying populations , legitimize powers, confer primacy or privileges, define possessions, territorial and cultural boundaries. The analysis of the sources allowed us to understand that the use of a general language with elements of the Portuguese language in catechesis, the contact of the indigenous people with the writing and reading of documents of the colonial bureaucracy, the coexistence in the house of the colonists, of reading, writing and counting favored the dissemination of the Portuguese language among the gentiles who existed in Piauí between the years of 1700 and 1757.pt-BR
