dc.description | The present essay in research assistance modality, emerges from a reflective exercise derived from the results of the research project "Functioning of new Hispanic American family configurations"; Its purpose is to offer an approach to the question: Are parenting practices and daily co-parenting experiences better in homoparental families compared to heterosexual families? For this, initially the review of the literature allows us to affirm that it is a topic that has been studied more widely in recent years (Su?rez et al., 2020) and that it deserves to continue the theoretical and analytical construction from the academy. It is a fact that families over the years have experienced changes in their configurations. An example of this is the families headed by people from the LGTB+ community. Approaching them from research is an interesting source for academic production, which allows us to understand how they are constituted, how relationships are configured within them, how they have resorted to the different access routes to parenthood. Knowing these and other aspects of their family functioning also allows them to inform public policies on child development, so as to guarantee diversity and social inclusion. Fortunately, in several countries it is possible to identify important advances in the recognition and appreciation of these family groups, the regulatory and legal strengthening of processes such as adoption and parenthood. In this regard, it is highlighted that in the face of these new family configurations there has been evidence of progress in terms of the perspective that society has on them (Salinas-Quiroz et al., 2018). That is why, within the framework of this research, it has been proposed to analyze from a theoretical and empirical perspective the functioning of homoparental configurations, with their respective potentialities, as a topic little addressed in the Latin American region.
