dc.description This article analyzes the historical evolution of Argentine private universities with special reference to the last decades. Its relevant recent expansion is analyzed and it is highlighted that the explicit quality controls existing in the country have generated a system of superior quality to those existing in the other countries of the region that have followed models of "demand absorption" with almost exclusive weight Of teaching programs. The experience of these decades indicates that private universities have been able to survive in periods of global economic crisis to expand in times of economic boom, and that these trends tend to be maintained. en-US
dc.description En este artículo se analiza la evolución histórica de las universidades privadas argentinas con especial referencia a las últimas décadas. Se analiza su relevante expansión reciente y se destaca que los controles de calidad explícitos existentes en el país han generado un sistema de calidad superior a los existentes en los otros países de la región que han seguido modelos de “absorción de demanda” con peso casi exclusivo de los programas de docencia. La experiencia de estas décadas indica que las universidades privadas han sido capaces de sobrevivir en períodos de crisis económicas globales para expandirse en momentos de auge económico, y que estas tendencias tienden a mantenerse. es-ES
