dc.descriptionSan Nicolás de los Arroyos es una de las tantas ciudades de la Argentina afectada por la reestructuración del Estado. Desde 1991, el gobierno nacional aplicó las recetas del Fondo Monetario Internacional, se produjo un proceso de privatización, reconversión industrial y flexibilización laboral que generó una oleada de retiros “voluntarios” que elevaron la desocupación y subocupación a índices insospechados en décadas anteriores cuando esta ciudad era “la ciudad del acero”. Miles de desocupados estructurales son conscientes que sus posibilidades de conseguir trabajo son ínfimas. Las estrategias de supervivencia se modificaron. Por eso no es casual que aquella ciudad del acero hoy se haya convertido en la ciudad de María: solo un milagro, la fe en dios y la dádiva de gobiernos demagógicos y populistas son los que pueden permitir reproducir materialmente la existencia de miles de excluídos que todavía no necesitaron de cortes de rutas ni de fogoneros para que sus reivindicaciones por un trabajo justo sean atendidas.
