dc.descriptionABSTRACT: Background: Demonstration of the possibility to obtain the sensory nerve action potential (SNAP) of sural nerve in patients over 60 years old, without peripheral neuropathy. Methods: Prospective study on 101 patients between ages 60 and 90. Stimulation was applied 12 cm proximal to the recording point. Results: 202 SNAPs of the sural nerve were collected with an average peak latency of 3.2 ms, base latency of 2.6 ms, peak-to-peak amplitude of 15.2 μV and velocity of 45.7 m/s Conclusions: It was possible to obtain the sural nerve SNAP in all tested patients older than 60, without peripheral peripheral neuropathy. The values obtained in the study prove to be useful as reference in the evaluation of patients older than 60 years of age.
dc.descriptionRESUMEN: Objetivo: Demostrar que es posible obtener el potencial de acción sensitivo (SNAP) del nervio sural en los pacientes mayores de 60 años sin polineuropatía periférica. Métodos: Estudio prospectivo con 101 pacientes entre 60 y 90 años, realizado con un electrodo de captación tipo barra marca Cadwell que se ubicó detrás del maléolo lateral, se estimuló 12 cm proximal al punto de captación. Se utilizó la prueba de análisis de varianza ANOVA para las comparaciones de amplitudes entre grupos. Resultados: Se obtuvieron 202 SNAP del nervio sural, con una latencia pico promedio de 3.2 ms, latencia a la base promedio de 2.6 ms, amplitud pico-pico promedio de 15.2 µV y velocidad promedio 45.7 m/s. Conclusión: Fue posible obtener el SNAP del nervio sural en todos los pacientes mayores de 60 años y sin polineuropatía periférica evaluados. Los valores obtenidos pueden ser utilizados como referencia en la evaluación de pacientes mayores de 60 años.
