dc.descriptionABSTRACT: Historical memory, as diffused by education, has had the pretention of consolidating projects of identity in Colombia. In terms of the teaching of national history, such memory has been exclusive. It denied the country´s cultural diversity and created myths, heroes, and “inaugural acts” in its existence as a nation. In order to explain this matter, textbooks used for the teaching of national history represent valuable sources of investigation. This article offers an approach to this problem, underlying the need to include this type of sources in the exploration of long-term social processes related to the formation of the Colombian nation.
dc.descriptionRESUMEN: La memoria histórica, difundida a través de la educación, ha pretendido consolidar proyectos de identidad en Colombia. En lo concerniente a la enseñanza de la historia patria, tal memoria ha sido excluyente: negó la diversidad cultural del país y creó mitos, héroes y “actos inaugurales” en su existencia como nación. Para explicar ese asunto, los manuales para la enseñanza de la historia patria se constituyen en valiosas fuentes de investigación. En este artículo se ofrece un acercamiento a esa problemática, llamando la atención sobre la necesidad de incluir este tipo de fuentes para explorar procesos sociales de largo alcance, relacionados con la formación de la nación colombiana.
