dc.descriptionThe objective of this investigation was to evaluate the number, size, viability, and germination of the seeds orchid Prosthechea sp., as well as morphologic characteristics of the fruit. The fruits were obtained in La Aguadita (Fusagasugá - Cundinamarca, Colombia). Fruit variables evaluated were: height, width, length and weight and for the seed: number, weight, size, germination and viability. The viability test was performed with Tetrazolium using four concentrations (0.4; 0.6; 0.8 and 1.0 %), 3 immersion times (30, 60 and 120 minutes in Tetrazoliun solution) and 6 repetitions. Prosthechea fruit measured: height (2.9 cm), width (2.4 cm), length (4.8 cm) and ellipse shaped with weights between 2.91 and 3.24 g. The seeds measured had 0.7 mm length and 0.3 mm width. The embryo was green with dimensions of 0.3 mm length and 0.2 mm width. The weightof 15000 Prosthechea seeds was 5.55 x 10-3 g. The number of seeds per fruit was: 3334091. Average viability was 48% and there were significant differences among immersion times and concentrations. Germination was about 29%.en-US
dc.descriptionEl propósito de esta investigación fue evaluar el número, tamaño, viabilidad y germinación de las semillasde la orquídea Prosthechea sp., y algunas características morfológicas del fruto. Los frutos se obtuvieron enla vereda La Aguadita (Fusagasugá – Cundinamarca, Colombia). Se evaluaron las variables del fruto: altura,ancho, largo y peso fresco, y para la semilla: número, peso, tamaño, germinación y viabilidad. La prueba deviabilidad se realizó con el Tetrazolio utilizando cuatro concentraciones (0,4; 0,6; 0,8 y 1,0 %), tres tiemposde inmersión (30, 60 y 120 minutos en la solución) y seis repeticiones. El fruto registró una altura de 2,9cm, ancho de 2,4 cm, largo de 4,8 cm y forma de elipse pesando entre 2,91 y 3,24 g. Las semillas midieronalrededor de 0,7 mm de largo por 0,3 mm de ancho, embrión color verde con dimensiones de 0,3 mm de largopor 0,2 mm de ancho. El peso de 15000 semillas de Prosthechea fue de 5,5x10-3 g. El número de semillas porcapsulas fue 3334091. La viabilidad registró una media del 48 % y diferencias estadísticas significativas entretiempos y concentraciones. La germinación arrojó resultados alrededor del 29 %.es-ES
