dc.descriptionThe genus Sicydium, called "chautiza" on the Ecuadorian coast, is a fish type that has an amphidromy migratory behavior and whose post-larvary state is used locally as a food and economic resource. There are records of this fish in old bibliographic sources and in some popular folktales. They not only describe the presence of "chautiza" along the Ecuadorian shoreline, but also its presence in rivers. These records have helped increase knowledge of the distribution of the "chautiza". Nowadays, its existence is very low and, in some places, extinct.en-US
dc.descriptionEl género Sicydium en la costa ecuatoriana, llamado localmente "chautiza", es un tipo de pez con comportamiento migratorio anfídromo, cuyo estadio post-larvario constituye un recurso pesquero de interés local. La presencia de este pez tiene registros en fuentes bibliográficas muy antiguas y en relatos populares que no solo describen su dinámica pesquera sino que narran su presencia en ríos donde hoy en día su existencia es muy baja o tal vez la especie se encuentra extinta. Sin embargo, amplían considerablemente su área de distribución geográfica.es-ES
