The manufacturing of ceramic pieces is a process that dates to ancient times, but as time has progressed, the techniques and manufacturing methods have evolved. One highly recognized method is traditional manufacturing, which involves manual work and artisanal results, using a clay material known as slip. On the other hand, with the technological advancements of the last two decades, computer-aided design (CAD) tools and the use of engineering systems such as computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) have allowed the manufacturing of products to be elevated to an industrial level. However, these technologies also present a new opportunity: the manufacturing of ceramic pieces through digital transformation. By replacing certain processes of the traditional method and optimizing time and effort, this new approach offers advantages. This document distinguishes between both manufacturing methods through the analysis of a case study, presenting a comparison of their operations to highlight the differences, advantages, and critical points of each.
