This image shows two extratropical cyclones and one low pressure system in the Northeast Pacific Ocean, as observed by the GOES-West satellite, December 5, 2010 at 2030Z. The cyclone off the Northern California coast demonstrated a stable, closed circulation, characteristic of all cyclonic storms, while the large cyclone just south of the Gulf of Alaska was rapidly intensifying. The far southern system looked like another cyclone but had no closed circulation, and the NCDC SRRS surface analysis showed that it was merely part of a trough of low pressure in the area
