| dc.description | Since ancient Greece, the relationship between literature and the imagery has been an object of wondering of many thinkers. Beginning with Aristotle, and going on with Kant, Sartre and Blanchot, the effort to understand how the literary language becomes an “image” and, at the same time, maintains its capacity to express meaning outside of a dependency (where image refers to the universe of visual representations), constitutes a challenge. In this relation, we understand that the term image assumes initially a metaphorical character, which makes it necessary to inquire how the visual concept enters the field of language and becomes in it an element of meaning. In this paper, we discuss some aspects that issue. Based on the concept – suggested by Valéry – that there is in literature an element of construction and forethought –, which is immediately converted, in the act of reading, in a field of literary meaning, often surpassing the author’s intentions –, we walk toward the idea that there is, in the transforming process (of image in literature), a formation of sense that supports and justifies the reader’s interest in the dispersion of literary language, also opening the space of questioning and criticism. Conceptualizing the notion of sense is fundamental here. In this study, by defending the idea that the imaginary, in the notion of sense, is a mode of loss, of self-forgetting, we freely address some elements of the relationship between literature and imagery, as well as its importance to criticism and literary interpretation. | |
| dc.description | Desde a Grécia antiga, a relação da literatura com o imaginário tem estado em questão nas reflexões de diversos pensadores. Começando por Aristóteles, e passando por Kant, Sartre e Blanchot, a tentativa de compreender o modo como a palavra literária se converte numa “imagem” e, ao mesmo tempo, mantém sua capacidade de significar fora do âmbito de uma dependência (em que a imagem remete ao universo das representações visuais), se constitui num desafio. Nessa relação, compreende-se que o termo imagem assume, inicialmente, um caráter metafórico, tornando-se necessário inquirir o modo como ele adentra o campo da linguagem e se converte em elemento de significação. No presente ensaio, discutimos alguns aspectos da questão. Partindo da noção, sugerida por Valéry, de que na literatura existe um elemento de construção e premeditação – que imediatamente é transformado, no ato de ler, em campo de significações literárias, extrapolando muitas vezes as intenções dos seus autores –, caminhamos em direção à ideia de que existe, no processo da transformação (da imagem em literatura), uma formação de sentido que sustenta e justifica o interesse do leitor pela dispersão da linguagem literária, abrindo também o espaço da interrogação e da crítica. Refletir, pois, sobre a noção de sentido torna-se fundamental. Neste estudo, defendendo a ideia de que o imaginário, no sentido, é um modo de perda, de esquecimento de si, buscamos abordar, livremente, alguns elementos presentes na relação entre literatura e imaginário, bem como a sua importância para o universo da crítica e da interpretação literária. | |
