dc.descriptionOver time, different alternatives have been proposed to solve the problem of edentulism, both in conventional rehabilitation and in that associated with implants, an object of restoring function, phonation and aesthetics; however, it is uncommon to inquire about what the patient aspires to obtain once the rehabilitation therapy is completed. The objective of the research was to analyze the expectations and satisfaction of the total mandibular edentulous patient. This is a qualitative-quantitative study in case study mode, for which 10 informants were selected candidates for hybrid screwed implantoretend implant prosthesis (PHISA) and 10 removable mucosupported implantoretend prostheses (SIMR), who were interviewed before and after the respective therapeutic intervention. The results showed similar aesthetic satisfaction in both groups and greater functional satisfaction in the SIMR group. It is concluded that total mandibular edentulous patients rehabilitated with SIMR perceive appropriate satisfaction, in line with their aspirations before starting implant treatment. Hence, the obligation of the treating clinician to explore the patient's expectations during therapeutic planning, in order to make clinical decisions that help provide the greatest possible satisfaction and a better quality of lifeen-US
dc.descriptionA lo largo del tiempo, se han propuesto diferentes alternativas para resolver el problema del edentulismo, tanto en la rehabilitación convencional como en la asociada a implantes, a objeto de restaurar función, fonación y estética; no obstante, es poco común indagar acerca de lo que aspira obtener el paciente una vez culminada la terapéutica rehabilitadora. El objetivo de investigación fue analizar las expectativas y satisfacción del paciente edéntulo total mandibular. Se trata de un estudio cuali-cuantitativo en modalidad estudio de casos, para el cual se seleccionaron 10 informantes candidatos a prótesis implantoretenida implantosoportada atornillada híbrida (PHISA) y 10 a prótesis implantoretenidas mucosoportadas removibles (SIMR), quienes fueron entrevistados antes y después de la respectiva intervención terapéutica. Los resultados mostraron similar satisfacción estética en ambos grupos y mayor satisfacción funcional en el grupo SIMR. Se concluye que los pacientes edéntulos totales mandibulares rehabilitados con SIMR perciben apropiada satisfacción, a tono con sus aspiraciones antes de iniciarse el tratamiento implantológico. De allí, la obligación del tratante de explorar las expectativas del paciente durante la planificación terapéutica, a fin de tomar decisiones clínicas que coadyuven a proporcionarle la mayor satisfacción posible y una mejor calidad de vida.es-ES
