dc.descriptionThe aim of this study was to evaluate the milk index as an indicator of productive efficiency for dairy cows on pasture systems compared with the usual indicator based solely on accumulated individual production. Age, total milk production and milk index from 1o5 dairy cows classified by the Holstein. Data were obtained from a commercial herd kept in the Province of Santa Fe Argentina, during the period 2000-2012. The evidence confirm previous results showing that greater individual production at the end of the productive life of the cow (LT) does not always guarantee a better result in terms of productive efficiency. The milk index as an indicator of productive efficiency allows a better assessment of the performance of dairy cows kept on pasture systems. It is conclude that this indicator has intrinsic advantages as it quantifies the level of adjustment between the genetic potential of the herd for milk production and the particular characteristics of the production system in which that potential is expresseden-US
dc.descriptionEl objetivo del presente trabajo fue evaluar el índice de leche como un indicador de eficiencia productiva aplicable a vacas lecheras mantenidas en sistemas a pastoreo en comparación con el indicador habitual basado exclusivamente en la producción individual acumulada. Se utilizaron datos retrospectivos correspondientes a 105 vacas lecheras, los mismos fueron obtenidos en un establecimiento lechero de la Provincia de Santa Fe, Argentina, durante el período 2000-2012. Se estudiaron las siguientes variables: edad, producción total de leche e índice de leche. Los resultados confirman trabajos anteriores, en los cuales se demostró que una mayor producción individual al finalizar la vida productiva de la vaca (LT) no siempre garantiza un mejor resultado en términos de eficiencia productiva. El índice de leche como un indicador de eficiencia productiva posibilita una mejor evaluación del comportamiento de las vacas lecheras mantenidas en sistemas a pastoreo. Se concluye que el indicador mencionado representa una instancia superadora en tanto cuantifica el nivel de ajuste existente entre el potencial genético de producción del rodeo lechero y las características particulares del sistema de producción en el que las vacas expresan ese potencial.es-ES
