dc.description.abstractThe work performed by the A/C system depends on thermal loads caused by the effect of solar radiation. Studies in Europe, Asia and North America show that fuel consumption increases by 12-17% in subcompact and lightweight vehicles. Therefore, it was carried out as an objective of this research, to compare the thermal behavior of SUV vehicles and the influence of radiation in the Ecuadorian Coast and Sierra region due to lack of studies in Latin America. Focused on a level of predictive research and using measuring equipment, temperature, humidity and radiation data were obtained and then a quantitative analysis was carried out with a series of data in different periods of time and considering several environmental parameters and scenarios such as: position of windows, color, orientation and use of air conditioning. Through this methodology it was determined that dark vehicles exceed ± 2.30 °C to light vehicles, having semi-open windows in vehicles facing north the temperature inside becomes similar to the outside temperature in the Costa region, while in the Sierra there is ± 10 °C difference, for vehicles facing East and closed windows in the city of Riobamba the temperature inside is ± 24.93 °C more than the exterior and with semi-open windows has an interior temperature of ±9.31 °C more than the outside, using the A/C in fresh air mode for speeds of 50% and 100%, was more effective in the city of Riobamba with a lower activation of the A/C system and for the recirculation mode good results were obtained in both cities with an activation of 14 and 10 minutes of the A/C. Concluding that in the city of Riobamba there are high values of radiation which causes a greater thermal demand.
