dc.description.abstract | This study aimed to determine the optimal lubricant for bicycles that provide a longer lifespan for
the 6802-2RS bearing. The bearing testing module was adapted and optimized by machining the
base for the 6802-2RS bearing and replacing fatigue-prone components such as bearings, axles,
and belts. The axles and pulleys were aligned to prevent vibrations and premature wear. A survey
was conducted to select the greases that were subjected to research, with four lubricating oils used
by bicycle technicians standing out (Shimano Premium, Shimano Freehub, Finish Line Premium,
and lithium multipurpose). Subsequently, tests were carried out to determine the bearing lifespan,
Bearing Damage Units (BDU), and temperatures reached during the tests. These measurements
were obtained using the TPI 9080 vibration analyzer and a thermal camera at 15-minute intervals.
The Kolmogorov-Smirnov goodness-of-fit test was used to determine which distribution best fit
the bearing lifespan data, comparing Exponential, Normal, Weibull, and Gamma distributions.
The results showed that the Shimano Premium and Shimano Freehub greases fit the Gamma
distribution, while the Finish Line Premium and lithium multipurpose greases provide the Weibull
distribution. In conclusion, the optimal lubricant was found to be Shimano Premium grease with
an optimal time of 164.06 minutes, followed by lithium multipurpose grease with a time of 100.80
minutes, then Finish Line Premium grease with a duration of 84.99 minutes, and finally Shimano
Freehub grease with a time of 65.5 minutes. These times were calculated with a reliability of 98%.
Conducting a study on the water resistance of the lubricants used is recommended, as bicycles are
exposed to rainy and muddy conditions. | |
