dc.descriptionIntroducción: La retracción gingival y la toma de impresión definitiva ha ido evolucionando al pasar los años. Actualmente, la separación o retracción gingival consiste en la retracción del tejido blando con la finalidad de proporcionar un espacio tanto en sentido lateral como vertical entre el margen gingival y el diente preparado para que el material de impresión logre penetrar en el surco y copiar el margen dental. Se reportan múltiples métodos de retracción gingival mecánicos, mecánico químicos y quirúrgicos; mediante estudios y conceptos se determinará cual es el más efectivo. Objetivo: Determinar la técnica de retracción gingival más usada para tomar las impresiones para prótesis fija en los pacientes adultos. Materiales y métodos: El presente trabajo de investigación es un estudio de enfoque cualitativo de tipo retrospectivo, con un diseño descriptivo. Se realizó una búsqueda con las palabras claves y de acuerdo a los criterios de inclusión se seleccionaron 30 sobre los cuales hizo la revisión. Resultados: Se determinó que la técnica de retracción gingival más utilizada en la toma de impresiones definitivas para prótesis parcial fija en pacientes adultos es la mecánica – química, seguida de la quirúrgica. Conclusión: Se concluyó que, en la odontología restaurativa existen varios métodos para una separación gingival; el método mecánico químico es el más utilizado y contiene buenos resultados tanto clínica como histológicamente, también dependerá de la higiene del paciente y el tratamiento periodontal respectivo para una encía sana previo a la separación gingival.

Currently, gingival separation or retraction consists of the retraction of the soft tissue to provide a lateral and vertical space between the margin and the tooth so that the impression material can penetrate the sulcus and copy the dental margin. Multiple mechanical, mechanical-chemical, and surgical gingival retraction methods are reported, through studies and concepts, it will be determined which one is the most effective. Objective: Determine the most used gingival retraction technique to impression making for fixed prostheses in adult patients. Materials and methods: This research work is a qualitative, retrospective study with a descriptive design. It has been made a research with the key words and, according to the inclusion criteria, 30 articles were selected from which was made a review Results: It was determined that the most commonly used gingival retraction in the making of definitive technical impressions for fixed partial dentures in adult patients is mechanical-chemical, followed by surgery. Conclusion: It was concluded that, in restorative dentistry there are several methods for gingival separation; the chemical-mechanical method is the most used and contains good results both clinically and histologically, it also depends on the hygiene of the patient and the respective periodontal treatment for a healthy gingiva prior to gingival separation.
