This research project is based at rendering a translation from Spanish into English of the Ecuadorian novel “La Emancipada” by Miguel Riofrío published in 1845, being the first book written in the country. The main reasons for the development of this project are the fact that it represents the beginning of the Ecuadorian Literature, and furthermore it reflects the sociocultural situation of women at that time. It is then a socio-historical registry of the constant struggle of Ecuadorian women looking for happiness. This translation aims to help Ecuadorian work “La Emancipada” to be recognized abroad. This work aims to apply Literal Translation based on the professional of this field Peter Newmark in order to render the best translation possible of this Ecuadorian novel that possess an old and local language taking into account the translation techniques learnt previously.
