| dc.description | The thyroid hormones (T3) and tetraiodothyronine or toxin (T4) are secreted substances by the thyroid gland whose function is to moderate the cellular oxidative processes which is fundamental for it’s development, normal growth and the maintenance of the energetic metabolism. It’s synthesis is based on the thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) secreted by the hypophysis, when there is an alteration of these hormones in our organism a lot of changes in our mechanism take place in which they perform their actions, specifically on the lipid and on the cholesterol (1). In this investigation we ´planted to determinate the values of T4 free and TSH “thyroid stimulating hormone” by the electrochemiluminescence; we had to establish the total levels of the cholesterol by spectrophotometry and relate the values that we obtained from the hormones and the total o the cholesterol ones. A descriptive study was released, with a transversal cut in which 51 men, and 25 women participated belonging to the local police from the city of Loja, whom TSH T4L “free thyroxine hormone” examination were performed and also for the cholesterol.
We managed to observe that that the 17,1% and 21,05% have a higher value of TSH and cholesterol respectively, meanwhile the 5,26% presented lower values of T4L. Relating Hormones with high cholesterol we managed to conclude that the total of 16 patients with high cholesterol in 2 of them belongs to the 12,5% there is a relationship of T4L low and high cholesterol, and TSH with cholesterol there wasn’t any result with the population studied. That’s why is important to continue making these type of studies, working with bigger population, in order to increase the possibility to find significant cases in the investigation, and therefore to contribute with the public health problems.

| dc.description | Las hormonas tiroideas triyodotironina (T3) y tetrayodotironina o tiroxina (T4) son sustancias secretadas por la glándula tiroides, cuya función es regular los procesos oxidativos celulares fundamentales para el desarrollo, crecimiento normal y mantenimiento del metabolismo energético. Su síntesis está regulada por la hormona estimulante de la tiroides (TSH) secretada por la hipófisis, cuando existe una alteración de estas hormonas en nuestro organismo se producen cambios en los mecanismos sobre los cuales ejercen su acción, como en los lípidos y específicamente en el colesterol (1). En esta investigación se planteó determinar los valores de T4 libre y TSH mediante electroquimioluminiscencia; establecer los niveles de colesterol total mediante espectrofotometría y relacionar los valores obtenidos de las hormonas con los del colesterol total. Se realizó un estudio de tipo descriptivo, de corte transversal en donde participaron 51 hombres y 25 mujeres pertenecientes a la Policía Municipal de la ciudad de Loja, a quienes se les realizó exámenes de TSH, T4L (hormona tiroxina libre) y colesterol. Se observó que el 17,1 % y 21,05% tienen valores elevados de TSH y colesterol respectivamente, mientras que el 5,26% presentaron valores disminuidos de T4L. Al relacionar las hormonas con el colesterol, se llegó a concluir que del total de 16 pacientes con el colesterol elevado en 2 de ellos correspondiente al 12,5% existe relación de la T4L baja y el colesterol elevado, y de la TSH con el colesterol no se encontró relación alguna en la población estudiada. Es por ello que es importante que se continúen realizando este tipo de estudios, trabajando con poblaciones más amplias, para aumentar la posibilidad de encontrar casos significativos en la investigación, y así contribuir con los problemas de salud pública.
