Depression is characterized by feelings of sadness, pessimism, dissatisfaction with oneself, loss of energy, motivation. This research aims to determine what is the relationship between emotional intelligence and depression in students of the Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences of the University of Cuenca during the period 2022. The population was 2004 students and a sample of 323 was determined by simple random sampling with a margin of error of 5% and a confidence interval of 95%. The research follows a quantitative, non-experimental, correlational and crosssectional approach. The instruments used were the WLEIS-S Emotional Intelligence Scale and the Beck Depression Inventory. As for the results, it is evident that high levels of emotional intelligence predominate with 67.5% and minimum levels of depression showing in 39.3% of the sample studied. It is concluded that students have adequate emotional intelligence resources to manage academic stressors that influence the presence of depressive symptoms.
