dc.description.abstractStress at present is a situation or condition of mental health, that specially affects academic population, due to its negative effects in health and welfare. Stress is the manifestation of physical and mental symptoms that negatively affect population in general and, specifically, student representatives, situations that require of major effort. Diverse studies demonstrated that the usage of coping strategies allows us to tackle determined stressful situations. For this reason, the general objective of this investigation, is to describe the levels of academic stress and the coping strategies, according to the academic term of the student representatives in various guilds from the different Faculties in the Central Campus of the University of Cuenca; who face stressful situations in addition to their academic responsibility of being student representatives before the University authorities. The approach utilized in this investigation is of a quantitative nature, of non-experimental design and exploratory-descriptive scope. Work has been done with a population of 32 student representatives from the Central Campus. The instruments utilized are the SISCO SV-21 inventory of academic stress and the ways of coping checklist of Lazarus and Folkman. In the results, levels of academic stress according to their academic term has a moderate range of stress, specially in fifth and seventh academic terms in which the representatives are. On the other hand, in the coping strategies according to the objective of determining predominant strategies, the following have been identified: search for social support and the acceptation of responsibility being the ones that represented a significant major level relative to the other ones.
