Emotional intelligence is defined as a person's ability to recognize, repair, regulate, understand and express emotions (Salovey and Mayer, 1997). The family plays an important role in society; parents, being the first social circle, should present emotional skills that help them cope with daily life, especially when there is a special educational need in their children. The general objective of the study is to describe the global emotional intelligence of parents' representatives who have children with special educational needs in the Ricardo Muñoz Chávez Educational Unit during the period 2022-2023. This study has a quantitative approach, with a non-experimental research design of cross-sectional type. The sample was nonprobabilistic by convenience, consisting of 38 parents. For data collection, the WLEIS-S emotional intelligence scale and a sociodemographic form were used to analyze the context of this group. The results reflect a tendency to high scores in emotional intelligence; in relation to the sociodemographic variables of the parents, men have higher scores in all dimensions, with higher scores in the age range of 30 to 49 years, and in terms of the special educational needs of their children, parents who have children with temporary special educational needs not related to disability have higher scores.
