After acknowledging the unsustainability of the current productive and segregated urban model, there is a pressing need to explore new ways of understanding and designing cities. In this context, the idea of centering urban decisions on the citizens inhabiting these territories and their well-being emerges, starting with the most vulnerable areas such as the outskirts. Therefore, the main objective of this research is to evaluate the living conditions in terms of care in the peripheral urban neighborhood of Santa Maria, located in the city of Cuenca, Ecuador. To carry out this analysis, a critical theoretical framework was first established to understand care in urban spaces, specifically focusing on care in peripheral urban neighborhoods. Subsequently, a methodology was employed to evaluate care using qualitative tools. The obtained results were then systematized and analyzed, leading to the proposal of a general framework of action and collective design strategies framed within the concept of care, aiming to enhance the outcomes derived from the conducted evaluation.
