| dc.description | Los pacientes edéntulos totales o parciales carecen de una buena función masticatoria, estética y de fonación. El edentulismo es una de las principales causas por la que los pacientes geriátricos acuden a la consulta odontológica y para solucionar el problema que aqueja al paciente, debemos prestar atención al resto de patologías orales que el paciente puede presentar. El manejo de los adultos mayores debe ser minucioso ya que presentan varios factores de riesgo que pueden complicar el tratamiento odontológico como: enfermedades sistémicas, psicológicas, motrices, entre otras, es por esto que es necesario seguir un protocolo de manejo multidisciplinario que abarque las especialidades que sean necesarias para devolver la salud integral del paciente, controlando primero la urgencia por la cual el paciente acude a la consulta (en caso de ser necesario), estabilizar a los tejidos blando con una terapia básica periodontal, luego se procede a realizar exodoncias, endodoncias, operatoria dental y posteriormente los tratamientos rehabilitadores, seguidos de controles periódicos. El realizar un correcto diagnóstico sobre los dientes remanentes favorecerá a determinar el tratamiento, finalmente el rehabilitar los maxilares edéntulos totales o parciales devolverá al paciente tanto la función estética, fonética y masticatoria dando al mismo mayor seguridad sobre sí mismo. | |
| dc.description | The total or partial edentulous patients lack a good masticatory, esthetic and phonetic function. Edentulous is one of the main reasons why geriatric patients come to the dental office and to solve the problem afflicting the patient, we must pay attention to other oral diseases that the patient may have. The management of elderly people should be a cautious process since they have several risk factors that can complicate the dental treatment such as: systemic, psychological, motor diseases, among others, this is why it is necessary to follow a multidisciplinary protocol to approach the specialties that are necessary to restore the overall health of the patient, by first controlling the urgency for which the patient attended the consultation (if necessary), to stabilize the soft tissues with a basic therapy of periodontal tissues, then it proceeds to perform tooth extractions, root canals, dental surgery and then rehabilitation treatment, followed by regular checks. To make a correct diagnosis on the remaining teeth helps to determine the treatment, finally the total or partial rehabilitation of the edentulous jaws will give back the patient the aesthetics, phonetics and mastication, to give greater security about himself. | |
