Relationship between hydrological protection and vegetable coverage of the Carrizal hydrographic sub-basin

dc.descriptionSe determinó la relación entre la protección hidrológica y la cobertura vegetal de la subcuenca hidrográfica del Carrizal, mediante el cálculo del Índice de Protección Hidrológica (IPH). Para esto, se utilizó datos obtenidos de visitas de campo a 28 puntos de referencia procesados a través de programas informáticos como Excel y Sistemas de Información Geográfica. El número de puntos de referencia fue determinado a partir de los 15 usos de suelo, especificados para el área de estudio de acuerdo con el Sistema Nacional de Información (SNI), conociéndose por diferentes autores que, a mayor área por cobertura, mayor número de puntos. Para el cálculo del IPH, se analizaron las variables: estructura, densidad, interceptación de la precipitación, presencia de mulch, características especiales, tipo de vegetación y grado de intervención con escala de 1 a 3 en transectos radiados de 50 m, evaluadas cada 0,5 m. De acuerdo con el cálculo realizado, la subcuenca posee una superficie de 5945,55 ha., donde la cobertura vegetal de alta estabilidad hidrológica es la de 70% arboricultura tropical/30% bosque intervenido, con un IPH de 0,873. El pasto cultivado y vegetación arbustiva con IPH 0,381 equivale a baja, que es el índice más preocupante porque no favorece la retención hídrica, al contrario, la escorrentía y erosión del suelo serán de mayor proporción. En general, la protección hidrológica de la subcuenca del Carrizal es regular (IPH 0,590), por lo que será necesaria la aplicación de medidas de mitigación, como siembra de especies vegetales arbórea con gran frondosidad. Abstract The relationship between the hydrological protection and the vegetation cover of the Carrizal hydrographic sub-basin was determined by calculating the Hydrological Protection Index (IPH). To do this, data obtained from field visits are used to 28 reference points processed through computer programs such as Excel and Geographic Information Systems. In general, the hydrological protection of the Carrizal sub-basin is regular (IPH 0.590), which means that mitigation measures are needed, such as planting of tree species with great frondiness.
