Sorghum (Sorghum vulgare) is currently considered one of the nutritional foods of livestock, it is considered more efficient because it has an adaptive capacity to the land and environment superior to any other forage plant with the same purposes, this grass has the characteristic of drought resistant and grows well under a wide range of soil conditions. The purpose of the documentary research was to analyze the use of sorghum (Sorghum vulgare) silage as a feed supplement in beef and dairy cattle. It was carried out using the Qualitative and Exploratory method in academic Google databases, indexed journals, Dspace of universities and scientific articles. Due to the scarcity of forage in times of drought, the farmer chooses to sell his cattle instead of looking for food alternatives that help improve their productive performance. The use of sorghum in the livestock industry is an option that benefits the farmer because he does not need a higher investment cost and in this way obtains greater profitability in livestock because sorghum has a higher energy and protein content compared to corn, providing up to 20% of its energy value for both beef and dairy cattle, covering all their nutritional requirements. For the cattle to obtain a weight gain and greater dairy production, it is necessary to know the nutritional requirements of each of the stages such as calves, heifers, or cattle destined for fattening. In conclusion, its high level of protein and energy make this a profitable product within livestock thanks to its low production cost.
