dc.descriptionIntroduction: The overweight and obese population fall within the range where they present factors that increase the risk of developing metabolic syndrome, including dyslipidemia, hypertension, insulin resistance or prediabetes, and central obesity. Objective: To analyze metabolic alterations and their relationship with body mass index. Methods: This study consists of a review in which scientific information from articles published in indexed journals such as PubMed and Scopus was collected. The search for information will utilize related terms provided by MeSH, as well as boolean operators "AND," "NOT," and "OR," which can be combined for more precise results. Relevant information will be selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: BMI is an indicator that, along with the alteration of one of the parameters of metabolic syndrome, suggests an association with long-term metabolic diseases in the patient. Conclusions: High BMI is related to metabolic dysfunctions that magnify the risk of chronic conditions such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and liver diseases. Early detection of metabolic alterations and adopting a healthy lifestyle are important in preventing long-term complications.  en-US
dc.descriptionIntroducción: La población con sobrepeso y obesos están dentro de los parámetros donde presentan factores que aumentan el riesgo de desarrollar síndrome metabólico como es la dislipidemia, hipertensión arterial, e insulinorresistencia o prediabetes u obesidad central.  Objetivo: Analizar las alteraciones metabólicas y su relación con el índice de masa corporal. Métodos: Este estudio consiste en una revisión para la cual se recopiló información científica de artículos publicados en revistas indexadas como PubMed y Scopus. Para realizar la búsqueda de información se utilizarán términos relacionados proporcionados por MeSH, así como los operadores booleanos "AND", "NOT" y "OR", que podrán combinarse para obtener resultados más precisos. Para seleccionar la información relevante, se aplicarán criterios de inclusión y exclusión. Resultados: El IMC es un indicador que, junto con la alteración de uno de los parámetros del síndrome metabólico, sugiere una asociación con enfermedades metabólicas a largo plazo en el paciente. Conclusiones: un IMC elevado se relaciona con disfunciones metabólicas que aumentan el riesgo de enfermedades crónicas como DM2, CVD y enfermedades del hígado. Es importante detectar tempranamente las alteraciones metabólicas y adoptar un estilo de vida saludable para prevenir complicaciones a largo plazo.  es-ES
