dc.descriptionAtherosclerosis is a chronic, generalized and progressive disease that mainly affects medium-sized arteries; its thrombotic complications are the cause of a significant number of deaths each year. The risk factors are the same for the different vascular territories and can be classified as causal, conditional or predisposing. The main objective of the present investigation was to evaluate the relationship between lipid profile and blood pressure in patients with atherosclerosis in Latin America. A literature search was carried out in the scientific databases PubMed, SciELO, Elsevier, Google Scholar, Redalyc, Springer and other sources such as the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), World Health Organization (WHO), books, and health reports. In conclusion, arterial hypertension in most of the studies analyzed is considered as a very important risk factor for the development of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events; alterations in the lipid profile, overweight and obesity were also considered as risk factors for atherosclerosis.en-US
dc.descriptionLa aterosclerosis es una enfermedad crónica, generalizada y progresiva que afecta sobre todo a las arterias de mediano tamaño, sus complicaciones trombóticas son causa de un significativo número de muertes cada año. Los factores de riesgo son los mismos para los distintos territorios vasculares y se pueden clasificar como causales, condicionales o predisponentes. El objetivo principal de la presente investigación fue evaluar la relación del perfil lipídico y presión arterial en pacientes con aterosclerosis en Latinoamérica Se realizó una búsqueda bibliográfica en las bases de datos científicas PubMed, SciELO, Elsevier, Google Scholar, Redalyc, Springer y otras fuentes como la Organización Panamericana de la Salud (OPS), Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS), libros, y reportes de salud. En conclusión, la hipertensión arterial en la mayoría de los estudios analizados es considerada como un factor de riesgo muy importante para el desarrollo de eventos cardio y cerebrovasculares, las alteraciones en el perfil de lípidos, el sobrepeso y la obesidad de igual manera estuvieron consideradas como factores de riesgos para la aterosclerosis.es-ES
