dc.descriptionType 2 diabetes mellitus is a chronic non-communicable disease with a great impact on the quality of life of the world population and constitutes a real problem for socio-sanitary health, thus also being one of the greatest threats and challenge for public health. For this reason, the objective was to analyze the prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus and its risk factors in adults in Latin America in the last decade. The methodology used consisted of a documentary design with a explicative and bibliographic character. Scientific sources such as: Scielo, Google Scholar, Redalyc, PubMed, Medigraphic, Elsevier, Science Direct, Medscape, among others, were selected. The meSH terms were used: type 2 diabetes mellitus, diabetes, risk factors, prevalence, and the Boolean operators 'OR' and 'AND'. The results obtained from this research reveal that type 2 diabetes mellitus is associated with different risk factors such as age, sex, family history, nutritional status, sedentary lifestyle, physical inactivity and overweight, the latter being more frequent in patients with diabetes. The prevalence of this disease is more related to adults who range in age from 30 to 70 years, with the female sex being the most affected, which leads to triggering complications in the health of those who suffer from it. In conclusion, the main risk factor for the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus is obesity and this is more prevalent in the female sex, which can cause different health complications.en-US
dc.descriptionLa diabetes mellitus tipo 2 es una enfermedad crónica no transmisible con gran impacto en la calidad de vida de la población mundial y se constituye como un verdadero problema para la salud sociosanitaria, siendo así también una de las mayores amenazas y reto para la salud pública. Por ello se planteó como objetivo analizar la prevalencia de diabetes mellitus tipo 2 y sus factores de riesgo en adultos de Latinoamérica de la última década. La metodología utilizada consistió en un diseño documental con carácter tipo explicativo y bibliográfico. Se seleccionaron fuentes científicas tales como: Scielo, Google Académico, Redalyc, PubMed, Medigraphic, Elsevier, Science Direct, Medscape, entre otras. Se utilizaron términos meSH: Diabetes mellitus tipo 2, diabetes, factores de riesgo, prevalencia y los operadores booleanos ‘OR’ y ‘AND’. Los resultados obtenidos de esta investigación dan a conocer que la diabetes mellitus tipo 2 está asociada a diferentes factores de riesgos tales como la edad, sexo, antecedentes familiares, estado nutricional, sedentarismo, inactividad física y sobrepeso, siendo esta última más frecuente en pacientes con diabetes. La prevalencia de esta enfermedad está más relacionada en personas adultas que oscilan en edades entre los 30 a 70 años, siendo el sexo femenino el más afectado lo que conlleva a desencadenar complicaciones en la salud de las quienes la padecen. En conclusión, el principal factor de riesgo para el desarrollo de la diabetes mellitus tipo 2 es la obesidad y esta prevalece más en el sexo femenino lo que puede causar diferentes complicaciones en la salud.es-ES
