As bolsas de valores movimentam uma parcela significativa de negócios no mercado financeiro. Elas são um instrumento fundamental para as organizações, pois facilita a captação de recursos; e para os investidores, que propicia liquidez e segurança nos seus investimentos. O presente trabalho visa analisar as variações de preço nas ações da Gerdau S.A, negociadas na Bolsa de Valores de São Paulo, no período de negociação para a aquisição da segunda maior produtora de aço estrutural dos Estados Unidos - Chaparral Steel Company - e levantar as expectativas dos analistas dos bancos de investimento e corretoras quanto à aquisição. Este tema é importante, pois os investidores das empresas que efetuam uma operação de fusão e/ou aquisição, não sabem qual será a reação do mercado, o que poderá ou não prejudicar o rendimento de seus investimentos. A aquisição da Chaparral Steel foi importante, pois além de expandir a posição geográfica do Grupo Gerdau, ampliou o portfólio de produtos.O método utilizado foi um estudo de caso, o qual auxiliou na identificação dos resultados positivos e negativos ao longo do trabalho.The stock markets deal with a significant part of business in the financial market. They are paramount tools for organizations, for it makes easier to obtain resources, and for investors, which provides liquidity and security in their investments. The current paper aims at analyzing the variations of price in the stocks of Gerdau Inc. , negotiated in the Stock Exchange of São Paulo, in the term of negotiation for the acquisition of the second biggest producer of structural steel in the United States - Chaparral Steel Company - and rise the investment bank analysts expectations regarding to the purchase. This subject is important, because the investors of the companies who accomplish the business of merger and/or acquisition do not know which will be the market reaction, what may or not damage the yield of their investments. The acquisition of Chaparral Steel was of great importance, because besides expanding the geographical position of Gerdau Group, it spread the portfolio of products. The method used was a case study, which helped in the identification of the positive and negative results throughout the work.
