| dc.description | OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the in vitro antibacterial effect from Eucalyptus globulus “Eucalyptus” essential oil on Streptococcus pyogenes and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: An experimental study was carried out to evaluate the in vitro antibacterial effect of 3 concentrations (100%, 75% and 50%) of the essential oil from Eucalyptus globulus on Streptococcus pyogenes and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Ten repetitions were performed for each concentration and sensitivity was subsequently assessed by counting viable plaque bacteria.
RESULTS: Streptococcus pyogenes and Pseudomonas aeruginosa are highly sensitive to the antibacterial effect of the essential oil from Eucalyptus globulus at 100%, 75% and 50% without finding a significant difference in the use of each one. The best results were obtained by using 100%, 75% and 50% Eucalyptus globulus essential oil on Streptococcus pyogenes
CONCLUSION: The essential oil of Eucalyptus globulus has an antibacterial effect in vitro at all concentrations tested on Streptococcus pyogenes and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

| dc.description | OBJETIVO: Evaluar el efecto antibacteriano in vitro del aceite esencial de Eucalyptus globulus “Eucalipto” sobre Streptococcus pyogenes y Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
MATERIAL Y MÉTODOS: Se llevó a cabo un estudio experimental que evaluó el efecto antibacteriano in vitro de 3 concentraciones (100%, 75% y 50%) del aceite esencial de Eucalyptus globulus sobre el crecimiento de Streptococcus pyogenes y Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Se realizaron 10 repeticiones para cada concentración y posteriormente se evaluó la sensibilidad mediante el recuento de bacterias viables en placa.
RESULTADOS: Streptococcus pyogenes y Pseudomonas aeruginosa son altamente sensibles al efecto antibacterianno del aceite esencial de Eucalyptus globulus al 100%, 75% y 50% sin encontrarse una diferencia significativa en el uso de cada una. Se obtuvo los mejores resultados usando aceite esencial de Eucalyptus globulus al 100%, 75% y 50% sobre Streptococcus pyogenes.
CONCLUSIÓN: El aceite esencial de Eucalyptus globulus si tiene efecto antibacteriano in vitro a todas las concentraciones probadas sobre Streptococcus pyogenes y Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
