dc.descriptionRESUMENEl texto plantea el renacimiento del ornamento como elemento primordial de la expresión arquitectónica. Para revivir una tradición erradicada por más de un siglo en un plano académico y así impulsar y enriquecer su desarrollo en práctica, se parte de un esfuerzo en redefinir un marco teórico para el diseño ornamental. Así se redescubren autores como W. Hogarth, O. Jones, Riegl, Wolfflin, Ruskin y sobre todo, G. Semper olvidados por la educación arquitectónica modernista y se proyectan críticamente sus teorías sobre nuestra realidad para crear una visión del ornamento en el mundo contemporáneo.Además, se dan varios ejemplos de la arquitectura ornamental contemporánea más notable y su relación con nuestro postulado.Además, se abordan las críticas más duras a la tradición ornamental con respecto a su función. Para esto se ofrecen, cómo antídoto a las viejas proposiciones de Loos y Le Corbusier, las ideas un poco más novedosas de Richard Sennet sobre la función cívica de una arquitectura simbólica.ABSTRACTThis text presents the renaissance of ornament as a primordial element in architectonic expression. We propose a redefinition of the theory of ornamental design looking to the words of W. Hogarth, O. Jones, Riegl, Wolfflin, Ruskin and, most of all, G. Semper, authors forgotten by modernist architecture education. Our task is to revive a tradition that has been eradicated in academia for more than a century and thereby incite and enrich its development in practice. The theories of these authors are critically projected over our reality in order to create a vision of ornament in the contemporary world.A range of examples from standout contemporary ornamental architecture is provided, along with its relation to our postulate. The text also tackles the strongest critics of the ornamental tradition and its function. As an antidote to the old propositions of Loos and Le Corbusier, we offer the more innovative ideas of Richard Sennet on the civic function of symbolic architecture.es-ES
