In recent years the demand for telecommunications services with high data transfer rates and immediate access has grown dramatically. In this regard, the photonic telecommunication systems have arisen as a competitive alternative for the processing, transmission and distribution of great amount of information. Because of this, there has been an increasing effort in researching new applications for photonic microwave systems. Some of their main applications are photonic generation of microwave signals, signal processing, optically controlled phased array antennas, Hybrid-Fiber Radio (HFR) or Radio-Over-Fiber (RoF) systems, and analog-to-digital conversion. In this thesis is presented the proposal, modeling and validation of a simple photonic system which allows the filtering of microwave signals in the frequency range of 0-15 GHz. The main advantages of the proposed system are its simplicity and its moderated cost. The frequency response of the proposed system is modeled by using a wave optics approach due to its simplicity. In addition, a novel simulation tool that allows us to reproduce the frequency response of the system for the conditions previously established or for real conditions is presented also. A series of experiments are also are carried out in order to corroborate the numerical results.
