dc.descriptionThis is a brief note on the stay in Puerto Rico of Juan Ramón Jiménez and his wife Zenobia Camprubí (1951-1958). During those years their lives were closely connected to the University of Puerto Rico, where they taught and in which Juan Ramón, in spite of his health problems, participated in diverse activities. Visits to schools, literary celebrations, advice to younger writers, creation of an art museum, and diverse publications are some examples of his activities during that period. Upon receiving the Nobel Prize for Literature not long after the death of his wife, and being sick, Juan Ramón asked the Chancellor of the University of Puerto Rico to represent him in the official ceremony in Stockholm. Before his death Juan Ramón donated to the University of Puerto Rico an important set of documents and materials that have since been held at the Zenobia and Juan Ramón Jiménez Room in the UPR.en-US
dc.descriptionEsta nota es una memoria breve de la estadía de Juan Ramón Jiménez y su esposa Zenobia en Puerto Rico (1951-1958). Durante esos años, la vida del matrimonio estuvo estrechamente vinculada a la Universidad de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Río Piedras, donde ambos ejercieron tareas docentes y Juan Ramón participó, pese a su precario estado de salud, en numerosas actividades de la comunidad universitaria. Escuelas infantiles, celebraciones de la Lengua, conferencias, magisterio de nuevos valores literarios, fundación del Museo de Arte y publicaciones, fueron algunas de las muestras más evidentes de su comportamiento. Al recibir en 1956 el Premio Nobel de Literatura, horas después del fallecimiento de su esposa y estar enfermo, confía al Rector de la Universidad la tarea de representarle en Estocolmo en las ceremonias de entrega del Premio. Antes de fallecer él mismo hace entrega a la Universidad de Puerto Rico de un importante legado de documentos y recuerdos que se encuentran reunidos desde entonces en la Sala Zenobia y Juan Ramón Jiménez de dicha Universidad.es-ES
