dc.descriptionTwenty seven homing pigeons (10 males and 17 females) were biometrically studied and the bilateral symmetry (right-left) level was evaluated. Analysed traits were the length of outer external rectrices, length of the wing and length of the second primary feather. The aim of the study was to check whether there is a relationship between the degree of asymmetry level and general health of the birds (expressed as a measure of body condition). Measurements showed a normal distribution and without differences according to the body condition, indicating a high degree of stable growth.en-US
dc.descriptionSe obtuvieron medidas corporales de 10 machos y 17 hembras de palomas mensajeras adultas, con diferentes palmarés deportivos, a partir de las cuales se obtuvo el nivel de simetría bilateral (lado derecho e izquierdo) en la longitud de las rectrices externas, longitud del ala y longitud de la segunda primaria. La finalidad del estudio fue comprobar si existe una relación entre el grado de asimetría y estado general de salud de los animales (expresado como una medida de condición física). Los valores obtenidos no se apartaron de una distribución normal ni presentaron diferencias según condición corporal de los animales, de lo que se deduce que las aves presentan un grado estable de desarrollo.es-ES
